Description: Pillbox and engine house, Charlton, Somerset. Alongside the towpath beside the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal. The engine house was derelict until recently (link) but has now been restored as a smart dwelling; the gate prominently displays the date 1826, the year before the canal became operational. The World War II pillbox, indicating the significance of the canal as a defence line in case of invasion, is apparently Type A.
