Description: Pill priory chancel This shows the surviving chancel arch of the priory church. The Tironian order, to which the monks here belonged, was founded by Bernard of Tiron, a C12 French Benedictine who was one of several at that time promoting a return to a more spiritual and less wordly form of religious life, nevertheless this was clearly not an impoverished establishment.
