Description: A view of the wooden Percy, or Powerscourt Bridge--the oldest bridge in Canada--over the frozen Chateauguay River in Quebec. It has been restored to its 1861 grandeur and has been declared a heritage site by the Canadian government. It was designed by American architect Daniel Craig McCallum. The Percy or Powerscourt bridge is the only bridge, out of originally 150 McCallum inflexible truss bridges, which was not designed solely as a railway bridge. They were erected to be strong enough to carry the heavy loads of locomotives and their cargo.
