Description: Orchardleigh Stones A pair of standing stones, possibly the remains of a burial chamber on Murtry Hill (perhaps from "Mortuary Hill"). Following a long history of digging and excavation the earthen long barrow mound is much reduced, and some of the stones were broken up and taken away to be used in road-mending and local building. One 'folklore' story says that a workman dug down ten feet and still didn't find the bottom of the great stone. The stone fell and crushed him, before returning to its original upright position. The stones are on private land and permission should be sought from nearby Murtrey Hill Farm.
