Image: Old OMSI complex in Washington Park in 1994
Description: A 1994 photo of the former site of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), in Washington Park, adjacent to the Oregon Zoo and the World Forestry Center (in Portland, Oregon). OMSI moved to this site in 1958, and moved again in 1992 to its current site, on the Willamette River. The main building shown here became the Portland Children's Museum in 2001, but in 1994 it was still being used by OMSI as a supplementary building called the Educational Resource Center. Still in place at that time was the planetarium – in the dodecahedron (12-sided) building in front of the main building – and two vintage airplanes, but all three have since been removed. The planes were a former Oregon Air National Guard F-102 and a former Hughes Air West DC-3 (converted into a C-47 cargo plane), which had been at the museum since 1978 and the mid-1960s, respectively. This photo was taken from about 500 feet away, from across a parking lot.
