Description: Map originally came from the United States Army Center of Military History, August 27th, 1776. The advance was 3 pronged, Grant had the left and was instructed to hold for a signal from Howe on the right, flanking the americans thru jamaica pass. Stirling retreated behind the marylanders holding the main force at vetche house. His troops on the left took the mill crossing over gowanus creek, splintering and fighting a rearguard action using riflemen to harry at the british from hiding. Many foundered in the marshes and were shot or drowned. Some british crossed the marshes following them.
