Description: Illustration in "The Mascot" newspaper, New Orleans, 1889. "The New Fake Museums". First panel of cartoon "As They Look Outside" shows barker and scantily clad woman lureing in customers. The barker is shown actually grabbing a young man by the hair to pull him in. Sign says "The Mysteries of the Serail" ("Serail" then being a synonym for "Harem"). The second panel "As They Are Inside" shows puzzled patrons in a room displaying cheap taxidermy and common items labeled with highly dubious claims.
