Description: The screw steamship Neptune, built in New York in 1864–1865 by J.B. & J.D. van Deusen for the Neptune Steamship Company. This steamer should not be confused for the steamship of the same name built a year earlier by the same shipbuilder for the same company which was acquired by the United States Navy and served during the American Civil War as USS Neptune.
