Description: Description: A plant pathologist, Nellie A. Brown (1876-1956) was a member of Torrey Botanical Club while doing postgraduate work at University of California. She began working for U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Plant Industry, in the 1910s, and conducted research there for 35 years. With C.O. Townsend, she was co-discoverer of the organism responsible for crown gall.
