Image: NLS Haig - Greys resting on the roadside
Description: Members of the cavalry resting their horses by the side of the road, in France. The men are milling around in front of their horses. They all look fairly glad to be having a rest. The line of dapple grey horses, standing side by side, can be seen stretching into the distance. They are on a long, narrow road that winds its way through farmland. In the distance there is a house and a row of trees. Whilst many images were deliberately taken as propaganda, some, like this, simply document the experiences of war. [Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT IN FRANCE. - Cavalry in training. The Greys resting on the roadside.']
