Description: A bass clarinet in C on display in the musical instrument collection exhibit in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The corresponding label dates this to 1820 originating from Chiaravalle, Italy made by Nicola Papalini. The instrument was donated from the Leslie Lindsey Mason Collection in 1917. The serpentine design of this bass clarinet differs from the design of modern-day bass clarinets.
