Description: Mossdale Scar Descending Mossdale, this is the first outcrop of limestone that one sees. It is also the point where the beck finds the limestone and promptly disappears into it. The cave system created by the waters of the beck is long and complex and was the scene of a tragedy in 1967. The story is well told by other contributors to this particular grid square.
