Description: Mk. 81 250-lb and Mk. 82/Snakeye I 500-lb. GP Bombs: The Mk. 81 250-lb., Mk. 84 500-lb. General Purpose (GP) Bombs were designed as a new series of low-drag bombs. The explosive was either TNT (1 yellow noseband), Amatol (2 yellow nosebands), or Tritonal (3 yellow nosebands). These bombs were used extensively throughout the Vietnam War and were carried on most attack, bomber and fighter aircraft of the day. The difference between the standard free fall MK. 82 and the MK. 82/Snakeye is the Mk. 15 Tail Retarding Device. This device was used in low-level ground attacks and slowed the descent of the bomb so that the attacking aircraft could clear the blast area.
