Description: Melville Drive pillars These stone pillars flanking the eastern entrance to the Meadows were presented to the City by the printing and publishing firm, Thomas Nelson & Son, in appreciation of being granted permission to erect temporary accommodation in the Meadows after a fire destroyed their premises in 1876. Similar pillars at the western end commemorate the International Exhibition of 1886 for which the Meadows was the venue.
