Description: A U.S. Navy McDonnell F4H-1F (later F-4A-1-MC) Phantom II fighter during carrier trials on the aircraft carrier USS Independence (CVA-62) in April 1960. Note the early-style smaller radome, the differently shaped air intakes, and the flat aft cockpit. This is the sixth production aircraft, BuNo 143391, which had a blown-flap system of boundary layer control, which was later adopted for production.
