Author: U.S. Geological Survey/photo numbered 187-190 by William Henry Jackson (1843–1942), and included in the Descriptive catalogue of photographs of North American Indians, issued by the Department of the Interior - United States Geological Survey of the Territories (Washington, Government Printing Office, 1877, p. 43). The photo seems unlikely to have been personally shot by Jackson who was the official photographer of the Survey. The Preface of the Descriptive catalogue explicitly states the negatives of all photographs in the collection were in the possession of the U.S. Geological Survey (p. V)
