Zu welchem Anlaß das Stück in den Besitz Bechsteins gelangte, ist bisher ungeklärt. Wahrscheinlich schenkte Daniel Elster diese Tasse dem Dichterfreund bei seinem Weggang. „Der Künstler ist unbekannt. Als Vorlage diente die um 1835 von dem sachsen-meiningischen Hofmaler Samuel Diez nach der Natur gezeichnete und von G. Bach in Stein gestochenen Lithographie Ludwig Bechsteins. Die Entstehungszeit ist demnach zwischen 1835 (Entstehung der Lithographie) und 1840 (endgültiger Weggang von Daniel Elster als Theaterkapellmeister nach Zürich) anzusetzen. Denkbar wäre auch, daß diese Tasse ein Hochzeitsgeschenk zur zweiten Eheschließung Ludwig Bechsteins mit Therese Schultz am 19. Juni 1836 ist. Die Hochzeitsfeier fand im Gartenhaus von Daniel Elster in Benshausen statt. „Zu der Tasse gehört noch ein Unterteller mit dem mittigen Schreib-Schriftzug "D.
