Description: In 1914, the Anderson Steamboat Company launched the ferry "Issaquah." The vessel was one of the first in the Pacific Northwest designed to carry automobiles as well as horsedrawn vehicles. Until 1918, the "Issaquah" sailed between Leschi, Mercer Island and Newport, where it linked up with the new highway to North Bend. The "Issaquah" could also be rented for excursions with dancing. This photo, taken at the Anderson Shipyard at Houghton, on Lake Washington, shows the ferry "Issaquah" at its launching. Captain John Anderson also owned Atlanta Park, a popular picnic spot behind the shipyard. Original photograph: 1914. Copied after 1975 by the Museum of History and Industry.
