Description: Portrait of George Alexander, Mayor of Los Angeles from 1909-1913. Historical Notes: Alexander closed the vice district for the first time in the city's history. After the bombing of the Los Angeles Times building in 1910, he hired the famous detective William J. Burns to investigate. Also during his tenure, the districts of Wilmington, San Pedro and Hollywood were consolidated into the city and the Owens River Aqueduct was completed.
