Description: On a cool, cloudy morning, I am checking out Kubota Garden in southeastern Seattle. Built by Japanese immigrant Fujitaro Kubota (1879-1973) between 1927 and 1963, and further refined by his American-born son Tom Kubota (1917-2004) until being acquired by the City of Seattle in 1987, it combines Japanese aesthetics and Pacific Northwest natural settings into a stunning setting. Best of all, as a public park, admissions is free, and the garden is curated by a nonprofit foundation.
