Description: The "CSXT Space Shot 2004" by the Civilian Space eXploration Team (CSXT) was the first amateur rocket launch to space. The rocket launched at 11:12AM US Pacific Time on May 17, 2004 at the Black Rock Desert in northwestern Nevada. (An amateur rocket means everyone working on it did so as a volunteer.) The rocket reached an altitude of 72 miles (115 km), the first amateur rocket to exceed the Karman Line of 62.1 miles (100 km) required to claim a space flight.
