Description: Memorial inscription on the 1652 tomb of John Brooke, son of Sir Robert and Dame Elizabeth Brooke, at Yoxford, Suffolk, showing an escutcheon for Brooke (gules on a chevron argent a lion rampant sable) (dexter) and another for his wife Jane Barnardiston, daughter of Nathaniel Barnardiston (azure a fess dancettée ermine between six crosses crosslet argent) (sinister). John, who died without issue, was the heir to Cockfield Hall at Yoxford. His sister Martha (died 1657) was mother of Charles Blois, and, after Martha's death, Jane Barnardiston married Martha's widower Sir William Blois (the younger), and became Charles's stepmother. Charles Blois thus became the 1st Blois baronet of Cockfield Hall.
