Description: Portrait Painting of Jane Addams, 1860-1935. Addams was one of the first of the college-educated women of the late nineteenth century to challenge traditional social and cultural constraints against women. She established the Hull-House, the second settlement house in the United States, which led to her advocacy for education and improving opportunities available to the poor.
