Description: Statue of James Watt at Heriot-Watt university. This statue was made by Peter Slater who taught ornamental modelling at the University's predecessor, the Watt Institution and School of Arts. The statue was unveiled in 1854 after which students and staff celebrated all night and formed the Watt Club – now the oldest graduate association in the UK. This statue is based on one by Sir Francis Chantrey, which is currently found in the entrance hall of the National Portrait Gallery, Queen Street, Edinburgh.
