Description: Engraving showing an ex-Congressman beating American Baptist leader James Robinson Graves with a cane, allegedly after Graves "slandered" a Nashville woman of high standing. The engraving appeared in William "Parson" Brownlow's book, The Great Iron Wheel Examined, a diatribe refuting Graves' attacks on Methodism. Personal attacks such as this, which were often untrue or exaggerated, were typical of Brownlow's work.
