Description: More photos from my day at the US Open of Surfing. It was a cloudy hazy day pretty much until the end of the day. It turns out I underexposed almost all my photos, all washed up with a tiny historgram in the middle. So, I tried to up the exposure and the blacks in Lightroom, which lightens and adds contrast, but makes it obvious that there are not enough tones in the image. Once I did as much as I could in Lightroom, I had nice details but the surfer looked like she was made of plastic. So opened in PS, removed all the nasty noise with Imagenomic Noiseware, and then opened and Viveza and really cranked up the structure, which made the water stand out a lot. To add the border I opened in Nik Silver Efex and some of the presets looked really nice. So, here is the Nik Silver Efex Dramatic filter, slightly tweaked to darken the sky a tiny bit. ISO 200, 365mm, f5.6, 1/1250. I can't believe I didn't extend the lens all the way, but at least upping the ISO to 200 let me get enough speed for cool looking water.
