Description: This is the front page of an order which appears as if it grants a hearing and the "writ of habeas corpus" to two chimpanzee petitioners Leo and Hercules. The order did not actually grant habeas corpus. Because of the media frenzy the order was amended with the phrase "habeas corpus" manually crossed out. This filing of this document was initially interpreted as granting chimpanzees a right to liberty and was reported all over the world.
