The Gothic Revival style building was built in 1887 to house the Academy of the Sacred Heart, a private Catholic boarding school until 1969. It is on the National Register of Historic Places in Wayne County. The campus is a Michigan State Historic Site, and a Historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.
