Description: Stately residence commissioned in 1804 by wealthy businessman Thaddeus Tuttle. By 1824, Tuttle was on the verge of bankruptcy, and the house was sold to Vermont Governor Cornelius Van Ness, whose wife named the property Grasse Mount. In 1895, it was sold to the University of Vermont, which first used it as a women's dormitory; it now houses the offices of University Development and Alumni Resources.
