Description: Granuaile's castle interior More properly a fortified house, this was on three storeys. A lower floor where the animals were kept, a middle floor which was the main accommodation and a top floor for defence. The floor timbers and roof have all gone but their fixing points can be seen. Granuaile (Grace O'Malley) was the prominent ruler of much of the west coast of Ireland in the 16th century, and had three such fortified houses along the coast.
