Description: Part of the Gott Collection at the Hepworth Gallery, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The collection was originally held by Leeds industrialist William Gott, and sold in 1908 and 1912 after the 1906 death of William Gott's son John, bishop of Truro. Showing an engraving entitled: "A south-east prospect of the Mix'd Cloth Hall at Leeds in the County of York, erected by subscription of the Clothiers, the first stone was laid June 4th 1756, and the first market held August 22nd 1758. The length 364 feet and breadth 192 feet. The inner court 330 by 36 feet. Number of windows 167, each 12 feet by 6. 7 doors, each 10 feet by 5. It's thought to exceed any building of its kind in Europe, being capable of holding cloth so as to be expos'd to sale, to the value of 109200 £ at a moderate computation. Design'd, delineated and superintended by John Moxson." The hall was demolished in 1890 and City Square was built on the site. (Source)
