Description: The Gifford-Davidson House in Elgin (1850). James T. Gifford was one of the founders of Elgin, who previously had also founded the town Dundee, New York. Gifford named the towns after Scottish hymns. Gifford died shortly after the house was completed. The cobblestone style is more typical of Gifford's native New York due to all the masons adopting the construction method from the Erie Canal.
