Description: Widow Maloby's Tavern in Philadelphia on NRHP since March 16, 1972. At 700 South Front Street (aka 100 Bainbridge as is marked on the side door). The entire block of Front Street, which has 8 house over about a 100 foot frontage, was built during the 1760s and is on the NRHP as a Historic District. This house was a tavern and is the largest building on the block, and is separately listed on the NRHP. 702 and 704 are also separately listed. To make things even more interesting, the entire block may also be part of the Southwark Historic District on the NRHP. The area was generally known as Southwark, but the northern part of Southward is now called Queen Village. At one time 2 blocks separated Front Street from the Delaware River, but now there is only a small park, which offers a good view of the battleship (New Jersey?) on the other side of the river. Photography of this block of Front Street is hampered by the big trees which cover the small houses - somebody should come back in the wintertime to rephotograph!
