Description: Monument marking the site of Fort Craig, located in Greenbelt Park in Maryville, Tennessee. The fort was built by Revolutionary War veteran John Craig in 1785 to protect early Blount County settlers from sporadic Cherokee attacks. Craig donated the initial 50 acres for the construction of Maryville's first town square.
