Description: Female mail carrier opening a post box in Paris during WWI. On September 28, 1915 to reduce the voids left by the mobilization of male carriers and reduce the delays in the distribution of mail, a decree that the wives of sub-agents killed or prevented from carrying out their duties due to the war could be employed as auxiliary mail carriers.
