Description: A U.S. Air Force F-105F-1-RE Thunderchief aircraft (s/n 63-8301) of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing in flight over Southeast Asia in 1966/67. It is armed with AGM-45 Shrike anti-radiation missiles and CBU-24 cluster bombs. This aircraft was flown by USAF Major Leo K. Thorsness and Capt. Harold E. Johnson (Electronic Warfare Officer), on 19 April 1967 during a SAM surpression "Wild Weasel" mission covering a strike force target that attacked the Xuan Mai army training compound, near Hanoi, North Vietnam. Maj. Thorsness was awarded the US Medal of Honor for risking his life to assist in the rescue of three downed aviators during this mission. The F-105F 63-8301 was later converted to an F-105G.
