Image: Exploding E match collage
Description: An E match type U at the moment of ignition, shown together with the same E match before detonation (left) and after detonation (right). An E match includes a thin wire submerged in a material that will ignite easily by the heat of the glowing wire by applying current (approx. 2 A required for this type). E-matches are used all over the world to ignite fireworks and similar pyrotechnic charges. Usually they are buried deep inside and controlled from far away. This image shows an untouched one on the left, in the moment of ignition in center and lastly one after ignition, revealing the insides.
