The Dundee Dam, with headgate (or sluice) for the canal, is in the foreground. The City of Passaic is on the right bank of the river, and Garfield is on the left bank. The former Dundee Textile Mill is seen between the river and canal. The canal was built 1858-1861 for hydropower and to supply water for manufacturing.
