Image: Downtown Crawford, Nebraska Postcard c. 1916
Description: Late 1910s postcard view of Crawford Nebraska, looking north on Second Street from Linn. No author is stated on the image, and it is not postmarked. The photo was almost certainly taken in the late 1910s. It was taken, at earliest, 1916, which is when the sidewalks were installed downtown. The business signs support this date; also, there are very few automobiles visible, as compared to similar views in the 1920s where numerous motor vehicles are present. The most prominent building in this scene is the Co-operative Block Building, on the far left. Note the ornamental spires atop the building; these were late removed, although the cornice remains. The structure has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. As the postcard this image was scanned from was obviously published before 1978 in the United States and does not have a copyright notice printed anywhere on it, it is currently in the public domain and is therefore eligible for inclusion on Wikimedia Commons.
