Image: Death rates from energy production per TWh (including solar)

Description: Estimated death rates from energy production by energy source, per TWh (terawatt hour). Data sources: Top 5 bars: Markandya, A., & Wilkinson, P. (2007). "Electricity generation and health". The Lancet 370 (9591): 979–990. DOI:10.1016/S0140-6736(07)61253-7. Note that this is data for Europe only. Bottom 3 bars: Benjamin K. Sovacool, Rasmus Andersen, Steven Sorensen, Kenneth Sorensen, Victor Tienda, Arturas Vainorius, Oliver Marc Schirach, Frans Bjørn-Thygesen, (2016). "Balancing safety with sustainability: assessing the risk of accidents for modern low-carbon energy systems". Journal of Cleaner Production 112 (5): 3952–3965. DOI:10.1016/j.jclepro.2015.07.059. Numbers for nuclear power adjusted by the authors of the figure to account for the fact that neither of the two studies include both of the major nuclear accidents: Markandya & Wilkinson (2007) was published before the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster (2011), while Sovacool et al. (2016) do not include the Chernobyl disaster (1986) as they only investigate death rates since 1990.
