Description: The arms were granted on January 26, 1970. The lion was part of the arms of both the two old districts. Similarly many very influential noble families from the area used a lion in their arms; f.e. the County of Diez, House of Nassau, County of Katzenelnbogen and the Electoral Palatinate. The colours represent the former districts.
