Description: An artists illustration of material being gravitationally sucked off a a blue supergiant variable star designated HDE 226868 onto a black hole known as Cygnus X-1. The purpose of this version of the image (versus file:800px-Cygnus_X-1.jpg) is to increase the sharpness of reduced-size thumbnails in articles. Special techniques were used in Photoshop to retain extremely sharp stars in this version.
