Description: George Cruikshank: Grand Expedition or the Commanders in Chief Watching each outhers Motions!!, September 1809 Die Zeichnung bezieht sich auf die Niederlage der Engländer gegen die von den Franzosen verteidigte Insel Walcheren im Jahr 1809. Getrennt von der Schelde sitzen sich der englische Befehlshaber, der Herzog von Chatham und der französische Befehlshaber, General Bernadotte gegenüber. Chatham läßt sich von Sir William Curtis mit Schildkrötensuppe trösten. Der Franzose nimmt Schnupftabak und fragt sich, was wohl John Bull in London über dieses "große Unternehmen" zu sagen habe. Cruikshank zeichnete dieses Blatt bereits als Siebzehnjähriger. Originalgröße: 280 x 450 mm
