Description: The Cornerstone of Freedom, Bedford, Bedfordshire, England. Not Bedford's most important monument. Seems to commemorate 2 facts:- a town in the US is also called Bedford and this town quarries limestone. The inscription mentions "solidarity", presumably for the towns' mutual dullness. A cornerstone is normally an important part of a building. This "cornerstone" sits on its own hardly noticed in a flowerbed on the Embankment, an early example of the pet rock.
