Description: Castle Howe, Kendal. Castle Howe is a motte and bailey castle, probably pre-dating the stone castle on the other side of the valley. The obelisk on the top of the motte was erected in 1788 and dedicated to liberty, commemorating the 'Glorious Revolution' of 1688 when James II went into exile and William of Orange was invited to become king by Parliament.
