Description: San Clemente Island paintbrush (Castilleja grisea) is endemic to San Clemente Island, the southernmost of eight Channel Islands off the southern California coast. The federally endangered plant is 1.3 to 2 ft. tall and is ash-gray in color with densely hairy leaves that are alternate and linear. The plant can be either free-living or parasitic.
