Image: Captain Burroughs' Flag From Ohio

Description: Captain George H. Burroughs and company from Ohio came to Texas under this banner presented by the ladies of Zanesville, Ohio. It had a field of light blue silk, with a border of white, edged with yellow fringe. In the center, upon a deeper blue ground was a five-pointed star of yellow, with the letters T-E-X-A-S between the points. Above stood the American eagle, holding in its beak a streamer, gracefully encircling the star, upon which was inscribed, "Hero of San Jacinto." In the lower staff corner of the flag was printed, "Zanesville, Ohio." Source: C. E. Gilbert in "A Concise History of Early Texas: As told by its 30 historic flags."
