Description: Since time immemorial the Nez Perce have harvested the camas bulbs found at Weippe. With the arrival of settlement, camas fields were used for farming. On these fragments of the prairie, camas still grows. In 1805, close to this spot, Captain William Clark met the Nez Perce for the first time as the expedition emerged from the Bitterroot Mountains.
