Description: Alan Walsh, born in Lancashire, England, joined the then CSIR in 1946 as a chemical physicist with the Division of Industrial Chemistry. He served as assistant chief of the division from 1958-1976.He is remembered for, among numerous achievements, his invention of the multiple monochromator and, most famously, the atomic absorption spectrometer.
