Description: This photograph depicts an inaugural meeting of a co-operative society formed by ethnic Chinese-Malay squatters who were forcibly relocated by the British as part of the Briggs' Plan, a counterinsurgency strategy used by Britain to defeat communist rebels by separating them from the civilian population. With the squatters are officials from the Federal Department of Co-operative Societies, welfare workers and police officers. The original photograph is made of cellulose acetate and is held by the UK Imperial War Museum, Catalogue number GOV 3821.
